I do hear you that we are feeling ready to start in person screenings again, I'm working on getting a new venue for September and the future. this week is a few useful links about some powerhouse film editors, negotiators with clients and even the big tv shows have to change the game plans when you don't the the location you expected.
I also have a favor to ask and a question to ask:
It is always a good idea to listen and learn from people who are smarter than you, This list of editors that have made great movies. Also happes to be a list of female editors but you can also just read this as a list of editors who made films that have won awards and are important to the history/culture of filmmaking such as Lawrence of Arabia, Reservoir Dogs, Dog Day Afternoon, Goodfellas and Moonlight. What surprised me is how most of these films might fall into a category of “tough guy” films but they were crafted by women working with big name directors.
I just canceled my music subscriptions after spending some time with Audiio.com. They are offering a lifetime subscription which is rad. Even better they are offering you $100 off with this promo code SAVE100.Full disclosure that this is an affiliate link so I get a few bucks if you buy. I only have good things to say about the library which I have used about 50songs from this year and positive interactions with the audiio staff.

We have all been there at the moment when someone asks “what is your rate?” Your mind starts the balancing act of how much you have charged and guessing how much this person might be expecting to pay. Figuring out “your rate” does take some time, confidence in your skills and knowing your market but this Anchoring method has is more successful for me than the ping-pong of “What is your budget?” vs “Whats your rate?” It might take a bit more confidence to say a number first.
A tip that I never see, but you can actually change your prices as you please. If you want to offer a discount, you obviously can. If you feel it is time to 2x your rate, you can try it out tomorrow, you don’t need to buy an Arri Alexa before you raise your rate.

This podcast with David Rom talks about filming a comedy sitcom that doesn’t look like a comedy sitcom. Lots of topics covered in here from lens and camera choices to the challenges of finding out that you can’t put a camera on the soccer field (football pitch) like they planed.
I am working to get in person events back in September. We are looking for new venue options which will allow us to gather and improve the experience we have been meeting successfully each month in a virtual space. If you have a film you want to show, I would love to show to the rest of the community. All that info can be found https://roughcutsfilmmakers.com/virtualevents.
Thanks for being in this community and thanks for taking action for each other.
p.s.
What youtube channels are you watching? I want some fresh voices, hit reply and send me something
